Technical Engineer

The role

Our electricity network spans between the Waimakariri and Rakaia rivers and stretches from Banks Peninsula to the foot of Arthur’s pass.  Building, maintaining and operating this network in a safe and reliable way is vital to ensure our community receives a safe and resilient supply of energy into the future. 

This role drives excellence in Health and Safety in Design to support the optimal performance and safety of Canterbury’s electricity network. Key responsibilities include the exploration and assessment of new equipment and technologies, standards and specifications design, as well as the investigation of network  events with a solutions and improvement focus. Ultimately, you will provide exceptional service to your customers and champion continuous improvement in an environment that promotes and values safety, accuracy, innovation and smart solutions.  

The candidate

You will be highly organised with the ability to plan and think strategically, seeing the big picture as well as the finite detail. You possess excellent communication skills and your solutions based approach will see you building strong relationships and delivering successful outcomes for the business and our community.  

A minimum level 6 qualification in electrical engineering (e.g., NZDE) or higher as well as experience in electricity power systems with broad technical knowledge across asset classes is required.

In addition you will have:

  • demonstrated ability to introduce new methods and technology to improve network performance and efficiency
  • proven analytical, research and standards development skills

  • strong negotiation and project management skills
